Vienna Pilot Project tackles loneliness and isolation among people with MS
23.10.2023In order to support people with MS, the Multiple Sclerosis Society Vienna has launched the pilot project MS Visiting Service Vienna, tackling loneliness and isolation.
Loneliness is a phenomenon that affects many people in our society. It is a deep sense of isolation where one feels permanently disconnected from other people and the rest of the world.
In our modern world, there is the contradiction: on one hand, we have more and more opportunity for constant networking via the Internet, social media and other means of telecommunications, on the other hand, the loneliness is still on an increase.
Many feel lost and alone in today’s society. Families often no longer live nearby, friends have moved in different directions, or the multiple pressures of our daily lives leave us with no time to attend to our social relationships.
We humans are social beings. We need relationships and community in order to feel understood, needed and secure. Only in this way can we flourish and enjoy the sunny side of life.
- In order to support people with MS, the Multiple Sclerosis Society Vienna has launched the pilot project MS Visiting Service Vienna.
- The visiting service team consists of trained volunteers (with or without MS) and accompanies, visits and supports interested people in their everyday life and leisure time.
- Joint activities such as excursions and walks, but also help with shopping and visits to authorities as well as an open ear for conversations are offered.
