Welcoming Our Scientific Advisory Committee: A New Chapter for EMSP’s Vision and Impact

24.04.2025

Earlier this April, the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP) proudly hosted the first introductory meetings of our newly established Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC). This is a milestone in EMSP’s continued commitment to evidence-based advocacy and innovation in MS care and research.

The SAC brings together a diverse group of accomplished researchers, clinicians, and scientific advisors from across Europe, united by a shared mission: to support EMSP in strengthening the scientific foundations of our work, amplifying the voice of people living with MS, and guiding our projects with expert insights.

Meet the members

We invite you to meet our Scientific Advisory Committee Members and learn more about their expertise: Professor Bernard Uitdehaag, Professor Eva Hvardova, Professor Giampaolo Brichetto, Professor Hanneke Hulst, Mrs. Louise Parker Buch, and Professor Philipp Zimmer.

Each profile reflects their expertise, areas of research, and the unique perspective they bring to EMSP’s work. Together, they form a powerful collective committed to driving progress for people living with MS across Europe.

A collaborative and strategic start

The meeting agenda was designed to build a common understanding of EMSP’s mission and strategic goals, and to co-create a clear path for the SAC’s involvement going forward. The agenda covered:

  • Welcome and Introductions – EMSP leadership and SAC members had the opportunity to meet, share their backgrounds, and begin forming strong working relationships.
  • EMSP Overview and Mission – We presented EMSP’s journey, our vision for an inclusive Europe for people with MS, and key strategic priorities, including ongoing projects tackling patient engagement, research, digital tools, and access to care.
  • SAC’s Role and Scope – We explored the role of the SAC in EMSP’s governance, its advisory function in shaping evidence-informed actions, and how members can be meaningfully involved in upcoming initiatives and reviews.
  • Collaboration and Guidance – Through open discussion, members shared ideas on how the SAC can provide valuable input and the most impactful modes of collaboration moving forward.
  • Way Forward – The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of next steps, including time to vote for the SAC Chair. EMSP aims to explore opportunities for the SAC to contribute to specific EMSP projects and advocacy efforts.

Looking Ahead

We are thrilled to have such a passionate and knowledgeable group of experts on board. The insights of Professor Uitdehaag, Professor Hvardova, Professor Brichetto, Professor Hulst, Mrs. Parker Buch and Professor Zimmer will be instrumental in shaping EMSP’s scientific direction and ensuring our work continues to reflect the realities, needs, and aspirations of the MS community.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work together with the SAC on projects and initiatives throughout the year!
