Bernard M.J. Uitdehaag

Professor (em) Bernard M.J. Uitdehaag, MD PhD, is neurologist and epidemiologist. He is involved in MS research since 1985. He has been involved in a broad range of topics of research, but clinical outcome measures have his special attention.

In 2009 he became a professor of Neuro-epidemiology and in 2013 professor of Neurology and chair of the Department of Neurology of the VU academic medical center in Amsterdam. In 2019 he also became chair of the Department of Neurology of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam and subsequently chair of the department of Neurology of the Amsterdam University Medical Center (a merger of both university medical centers in Amsterdam) until his retirement in January 2025.

In 2013 he became Director of the MS Center Amsterdam and led the center for 10 years. He (co-)authored around 500 scientific papers.

He is still active in MS research. Among many other positions, he is a board member of the European Charcot Foundation, and the MS International Federation.
