28.10.2025

The European MS community has lost a dedicated advocate, wise leader, and cherished colleague

It is with profound sadness that the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP) announces the passing of Klaus Knops, our esteemed former Treasurer and long-standing Executive Committee member.

Klaus joined EMSP’s Executive Committee in 2012 and served as Treasurer from 2018 to 2024, bringing exceptional expertise, dedication, and vision to our organisation during a period of significant challenges and opportunities. His leadership was instrumental in navigating EMSP through the complexities of the post-pandemic recovery, economic uncertainties, and evolving funding landscapes.

A Legacy of Financial Stewardship

Under Klaus’s guidance, EMSP maintained financial stability while pursuing ambitious goals for the European MS community. He skillfully managed organisational transitions, secured new funding streams through successful EU project applications, and ensured that EMSP remained positioned for sustainable growth. His strategic thinking and careful stewardship provided the foundation for our continued mission to empower people affected by multiple sclerosis across Europe.

Beyond his professional contributions, Klaus was a kind and thoughtful presence who brought warmth, patience, and genuine care to every interaction. His transparency, integrity, and collaborative spirit made him a trusted voice within the Executive Committee and across the EMSP network.

A Lasting Impact

Klaus’s contributions to EMSP have left an indelible mark on our organisation. The financial structures he helped build, the partnerships he fostered, and the strategic direction he influenced continue to benefit our community today. His legacy lives on in every project we undertake, every member organisation we support, and every person affected by MS whose life we touch.

The EMSP team, Executive Committee, and entire network of member organisations mourn the loss of a remarkable colleague and friend. Our heartfelt condolences go to Klaus’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Klaus Knops will be greatly missed, but his spirit of dedication, compassion, and service will continue to inspire our work for years to come.
