EMSP Advocates for Patient-Centered AI Development at Brain Innovation Days 2024

15.11.2024

EMSP CEO, Elisabeth Kasilingam, joined leading experts at the Brain Innovation Days in Brussels on November 23-24 to discuss the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. Speaking at the panel “From Lab to Society – Enabling Remote, Value-Based and Patient-Centred Care,” she highlighted the role of AI technologies projects such as the Brainteaser in revolutionising treatment for 1.2 million Europeans living with MS.

Beyond Technology: Building Trust and Transparency

During the discussion, Kasilingam emphasised AI’s potential in early detection, real-time monitoring, and personalised treatment approaches. However, she stressed that successful AI integration in healthcare requires meaningful patient involvement at every stage.

For AI in MS care to be truly effective, it is crucial for decision makers to ensure that patient centered design and mechanisms are embedded in the regulatory processes. With appropriate legislation, patient perspective can become a formalised, indispensable component of AI tool development, enhancing both ethical integrity and practical value of these technologies in healthcare.
