Spotlight on More-EUROPA: Bridging Real-World Data and Clinical Evidence for Better MS Care

25.06.2025

At the EMSP Annual General Meeting 2025, we were delighted to present the More-EUROPA project—a collaborative effort funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme (Grant No. 101095479). This five-year project, which began in January 2023, brings together 14 public and private organisations from seven EU countries. The goal of More-EUROPA is to use real-life health data (called real-world data or RWD) to help experts make better decisions about medicines. This can lead to faster and easier access to safe and effective treatments for people across Europe, and can also help reduce the costs of developing and approving new medicines.

The project includes experts from different areas—regulators, researchers, and patient organisations—working together with the support of a dedicated advisory board.

Led by Sieta de Vries (University Medical Center Groningen), the More-Europa session provided an insightful overview of the project’s goals and ongoing research, with a focus on multiple sclerosis. A key case study will explore how registry-based RCT results on rituximab can be supported by observational data from patient registries, and be extended to several European MS registries, potentially offering more affordable and effective treatment options.

We also shared preliminary results from three studies:

  • Survey Study 1: Stakeholders’ perspectives on using patient registry data for decision-making.
  • Survey Study 2: Stakeholders’ views on ethical aspects of patient registries.
  • Interview Study: Insights from people living with MS on ethics and patient-reported outcomes in registries.

Importantly, the More-EUROPA project doesn’t stop at research—it includes e-learning resources to inform and engage patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals about the power and potential of RWD.

The lively discussion and cross-b order collaboration highlighted the collective commitment to harnessing real-world insights and making them meaningful for people with MS.
